When the Going Gets Tough

I have had blogs before, and never seemed to keep up with them, but I love writing/story telling (I'm one of those "I use five million words when eight will do" people) so I decided to hop back on here and write.

Many of you know that for the last eight years I have battled depression.  It started with post-partum after both my kiddos were born, but in 2016 it became a daily "friend" of mine.  2016 was a really tough year.  I lost all my joy, and I'm one of those freakishly happy all the time people.  Like, always smiling happy.

It comes and goes and usually doesn't hang around long.  It most recently crept up on me about a month and a half ago and I've spent the better part of that time battling.

I'm not writing to talk about what I've been going through, although believe me, I am an open book when it comes to this.  If I can help ONE person feel better or realize that they are not alone, then it's worth it to be vulnerable and open about my struggles.  I am writing because I want people to know how important it is to be there for people who are struggling.  The absolute worst thing you can do to someone who is struggling with depression (and anxiety) is to abandon them.  Please check in on them.  Pray for them.  Let them know often that you're thinking about them.  Text them, message them, call them.....reach out to them and let them know that you're there.  When you are depressed, you often feel alone.  It's not just being sad; depression is so much more.

Treasure your friends in the good times and in the bad.  I am thankful for the few who have stood by me at my worst.
